Madam, - As the software technology developers behind mPARK, Dublin City Council's new mobile phone parking payment service, may we point out to your readers that the new service is not remotely as complicated as Kevin Myers implies in his Irishman's Diary of January 16th. Instead, it is very convenient and easy to use.

Dublin City Council is far-sighted in introducing this new wireless payment service, one of the first such facilities to be made available to motorists in Ireland or anywhere else in the world. As a self-acknowledged technophobe, Mr Myers can be comforted by the fact that real coins can also still be used in the highly modern, solar-powered, GSM-equipped pay-and-display machines which are now in service.

Of course, your mobile phone will not prevent you from being clamped, fined or towed if you have not paid the appropriate parking fee, but then, technology can't do everything. - Yours, etc.,
