Sir, - It has been said that the law is an ass, and the following anomaly would seem to support this view.The driver of a car is required by law to wear a safety belt, as arethe passengers when belts are provided, even though failure to comply involves no risk to anybody but the occupants of the vehicle.On the other hand, when a driver uses a mobile phone while driving, according to qualified medical opinion, the risk of a crash is quadrupled.
