Sir, - Did you notice the dearth of shamrock on display on St Patrick's Day?
Years ago it was almost de rigueur to wear a spray of trifolium filiforme. These days, hardly anybody bothers.
Why is our national emblem held in such low esteem? Perhaps its due to our Tiger economy and the fact - hotly disputed by many - that we are all living in clover. - Yours, etc.,
Paul Delaney, Beacon Hill, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
