Sir, - So Nell in The Sunday Tribune and Nuala in The Irish Times are casting their journalistic eye on Achill and Christina Gallagher ... but why? I cannot help but get the feeling that Christina Gallagher is useful to them in as much as she can be made into a cudgel with which to beat the institutional Church over the head.
Perhaps Nuala's opinions would be broader if she had read beyond Colm Toibin into the spiritual landscape outlined in the work of John Moriarty's Dream time and Turtle was gone a Long Time. Here we are told that just as there is a freezing point in nature where water becomes snow, so also, in our supernatural world, there is a "miracling point" which anyone who values the spiritual is drawn towards. - Yours, etc.,
The Presbytery,
Gneeveguilla,
Rathmore,
Co Kerry.
