Sir, - I am writing to express my surprise and regret at the grossly misleading headline which you published on Monday (November 18th) over your coverage of SIPTU's Public Sector Region's conference in Dublin. The suggestion that "Minister Quinn was heckled over nurses' pay", in particular, distorts the facts to such an extent that it demands a rebuttal.
One person attending the conference made one brief comment while he spoke. The suggestion that the Minister was other than properly received by our public sector members is inaccurate.
And, may I add, there was no emergency motion before conference involving the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications. It could not therefore have been passed, although it is, recorded as such by your correspondent. - Yours, etc,
SIPTU Public Sector
Regional Secretary
Liberty Hall,
Dublin 1.
