Sir, - I share the concern of Deasun Breathnach (December 17th) about the abuse of our second language in newspapers.
Some words are consistently misused. Examples include fortuitous ("bounce of the ball"), disinterested ("powers-that-be") and inexplicable ("grief") when the context clearly suggests that the appropriate adjectives are, respectively: fortunate, uninterested and inexpressible. - Yours, etc.,
