Sir, - I want to send my apology for the improper, discourteous and professionally injurious remarks made by a "sicko" American media about your Olympic swimmer, Ms Michelle Smith, in Atlanta.

The media's motive was to mitigate the poor performance by a former American swimming champion, Miss Evans. The "Your in my backyard; play by my rules," attitude is reminiscent of Hitler's disapprobation about a magnificent American sprinter, Mr Jesse Owens in the 1936 games. The American media has regurgitated that sad story so often that it reminds one of the species of frog which externalises its entire stomach through its mouth when nauseated.

The American people are not represented by media. The Real Americans unabashedly say: "Ms Smith, your performance was one of the greatest in Olympian swimming history. We sincerely congratulate you. Your country is proud of you and you, yourself, are a class act." And a personal thank you for giving the hypocritical American Media their "comeuppance", times three. - Yours, etc.,
