Sir, - I wish to applaud your critic Aidan Twomey for one of the most appropriate reviews of a performance that I have ever read (The Irish Times, December 6th).
I went with an open mind, but the sheer awfulness of the whole production soon changed that. It still surprises me that music that is so beautiful could be so badly mutilated, changing light and delicate parts into plodding heavy pieces, and transforming other sections into really unpleasant noise.
In my part of the audience, some caught the "beat" and began to clap in time to the Hallelujah Chorus. Others were simply helpless with laughter at the performances of the soloists.
It was like bad karaoke! - Yours, etc.,
