Sir, - l have just heard the sad news that Mervyn Wall has died. He was for many years a familiar figure in Dublin's literary scene. He was a wonderful story teller and I was always happy to listen to his memories of literary and political figures. A friend of Dennis Devlin, Brian Coffey, Mary Lavin, Roger McHugh, Niall Sheridan and others in that distinguished generation, he had an invaluable knowledge and understanding of their period. As novelist, short story writer and dramatist he has a secure place in Irish literature. I will miss his warmth, good humour, satirical tongue and enjoyment of good company. Irish life is greatly diminished by his passing. - Yours, etc.,
