Madam, - Whilst we welcome the interest of B Geoghegan (August 3rd) in our case, we are disappointed to note that the vast amounts of money spent by State agencies on spinning the truth of our case has resulted in confusion on the part of many citizens.

We fought for the establishment of a tribunal as we thought it would be set up on a basis of fairness and equity but, sadly, the opposite has occurred. The Morris tribunal has been carefully designed by its creators to force the victims of Garda corruption into acceptance of a version of history which we know to be untrue in some respects, inaccurate and incomplete in many others but always, protective of senior Garda management and State agencies. The thumbscrews available to the State inquisition are financial, as if we insist on asking questions which are considered awkward by the State or senior Garda management we will be refused our legal costs, with disastrous consequences for us, since we have already been bankrupted by fighting the corrupt State for nine years.

If any readers doubt that the basis of the Morris tribunal is unsatisfactory they should reflect on the fact that Commissioners Byrne and Conroy, Ministers McDowell and O'Donoghue as well as holders of other State positions who are up to their armpits in the Donegal Garda scandal are guaranteed not to be asked a single hostile question at the tribunal. We have many such questions which will never be asked. Yet, these State office holders have conferred on themselves full legal representation to answer questions that will never be asked.
