Madam, – Brendan Lynch (April 1st) suggests the 1916 Rising was unnecessary because “Home Rule was within reach . . .”. “Home rule” is not “independence”, ergo Mr Lynch’s subsequent points are moot. Perhaps national maturity will be achieved when total independence is gained. It will never be achieved as long as some people remain psychologically subservient to an erstwhile empire-building foreign state. – Yours, etc,
