March against legalising abortion

Sir, – Congratulations on your coverage of the Rally for Life (Home News, July 4th).

Sir, – Congratulations on your coverage of the Rally for Life (Home News, July 4th).

On behalf of the large Limerick contingent that attended, I wish to wholeheartedly endorse what was said by speaker after speaker at the rally. The Constitution belongs to the people of Ireland, not to the Dáil or to Europe. We will never, ever accept the legalised exploitation of mothers and the direct and intentional destruction of the lives of unborn babies through legalisation of abortion in Ireland.

Pro-life Limerick, in association with Ireland United for Life, calls on Taoiseach Enda Kenny to keep his pre-election promise not to legislate for abortion. – Yours, etc,

NORA BENNIS,

Sir,  – As one of those who took part in the Rally for Life in Dublin on Saturday, I was glad to see it covered in The Irish Times. I don't know if the figure of 5,000 in attendance is correct but I do know that it was a huge crowd which filled the street opposite the Dáil. It was a joyous occasion where so many came together to celebrate life and to state opposition to the taking of life, particularly the most vulnerable of all, the child in the womb. The only sour note was the pro-choice heckling in O'Connell Street, which, was absent in the Belfast Rally last year when all could happily enjoy the occasion.

One young woman beside me was visibly upset by the shouting from the small sad group promoting abortion, but this could not dampen the positive atmosphere of respect for all human life from the womb to the tomb so evident in Saturday’s gathering from all corners of Ireland. – Yours, etc,
