Sir, - "However, I would guess that most thirty-something women, whether they admit it or not, would like a man around if there were any men available," writes Maire Nic Ghabhainn (July 3rd). Let me assure Maire that many, if not most, thirty-something single men are still around and available here in Ireland for meaningful, fulfilling relationships - not just one-night stands, as she sees it. Despite simplistic assertions to the contrary, we aren't completely extinct.
One related question: Is it too much to hope that women like Maire will, in these sex-saturated, rabidly consumerist times, learn to start accepting thirty-something single men for what we actually are - imperfect human beings as much in need of love and understanding as our female counterparts? - Yours, etc., Edwin McCloughan,
