Sir, - I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Mansion House. It is a very fine building with a beautiful facade. It is a most fitting home for a Lord Mayor, with a perfect location. However, it is in need of a co-ordinated, comprehensive and sensitive interior renovation. While individual Lord Mayors have made improvements over the years, it would not have been possible for any one individual in any one year to undertake major renovations.
I would like to suggest that the Government should allocate money to renovate the interior of the Mansion House to the very high standard which the house and its function deserve. This work could be undertaken as a millennium project. In this time of huge monies available to the Government, surely it cannot allow the Mansion House to continue welcoming visitors from all over the world in its present state. It may be said that this is a matter for Dublin Corporation, but I think that it would be appropriate for the Government to provide once-off finance for this worthy project.
We are very proud of the Government Buildings. We should also be proud of the Mansion House. - Yours, etc., Carol McKenna,
De Vesci Terrace, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
