Sir, - The letter from Mary Noonan (February 7th) suggesting a connection between John Major and Oliver Cromwell may be a useful contribution to the peace process, if it leads all those involved in that process to reflect on Cromwell's plea to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland: "I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible that you may be mistaken."
