Sir, - Congratulations to Feardorcha Mac Aogain for his clear expression of the concern felt by many of us regarding the LRT plan (December - 29th). Those responsible for this Proposal appear to have little or no regard for the appalling disruption which will be caused during the installation stage, and the continued restriction of traffic on most of the centre-city streets thereafter.
Dublin's city streets are in no way comparable to the wide boulevards which accommodate fast-moving trams in continental cities, and are certainly not suitable for tram units almost 100 feet long. In addition, it will be necessary to accept the imposition of substantial numbers of supports for the overhead wiring, which in itself will be another blot on the urban landscape.
Yours etc.
Mather Road North, Mount Merion, Co Dublin.
