Sir, - I have long thought that the present system of carrying over unwon Lottery prize-money is most unfair to the vast majority of participants.
A fairer system would be to divide the main prize if it is not won outright between the holders of five numbers, thereby spreading the wealth over a greater number of winners and making a lot more people happy.
This would have the indirect effect of creating employment as winners of smaller amounts might be more likely to put their funds back into the system by setting up their own businesses, etc., while major winners tend to bank the money and retire. - Yours, etc.,
