Sir, The Irish Times (December 17th), under the heading "Standing at taxi ranks getting cold and angry; a regular late nite experience", gave an insight into the lives of those who go out for a night's enjoyment, which generally consists of sitting in a smoke filled, overcrowded room, turning their liquid assets into . . . well, liquid. They then wait up to one and a half hours for a taxi to take them on a journey which would scarcely take an hour by Shanks's' mare, in the case of Artane, or half, that where Ringsend is concerned. Regrettable, indeed.
However, there is light at the end of the tunnel in that very, same newspaper, where it is reported that a psychologist, Mr Geoffrey Lowe, has demonstrated, through three separate studies no less, that "social drinkers laugh more". Which is probably just as well. - Yours, etc.,
