Locking up by the loughs

Madam, – I have been a frequent visitor to the Fermanagh-Donegal border area for more than 35 years and first became a victim of crime this Easter. On April 19th I visited Lough Keenaghan near Belleek. Thieves stole my wife’s handbag, including house keys and driver’s licence, from the car as she sat beside it enjoying the sun. We were forced to return home to replace the household locks. On April 28th, I left the car at nearby Lough Scolban. I returned to find several thousand pounds worth of damage to windows and doors where thieves had attempted to gain access. I was forced to return home to replace my car locks. A fellow angler from France lost the sound system from his vehicle.

Police inform me these are common crimes in the area, and while I do not accept this, I would like to thank the officers involved for their concern and swift action. Anglers and other visitors should be on their guard and pass to PSNI and Garda the number plates of suspicious vehicles which prowl in isolated car parks. – Yours, etc,
