Madam, – The editor of Politics.ie and former Libertas Lisbon campaign director David Cochrane (June 26th) writes that he is going to vote Yes in the second Lisbon referendum because we will retain our commissioner!
So this is what their last divisive, untruthful and damaging campaign was all about? His editorial credence with the above website will now have the No effect with me! – Yours, etc,
Madam, – I was rather shocked to read Aengus Ó Snodaigh’s spurious list of claims about the Lisbon Treaty, many of which are ludicrous and simply untrue (Opinion, June 25th).
Predictably, he brought up the issue of corporation tax, saying that a unanimous vote can introduce a common corporation tax rate. What Mr Ó Snodaigh forgets is that there are a lot of Eastern European nations who rely on low corporation tax for foreign investment. They’ll not support a common corporation tax rate.
Additionally, our diplomatic neutrality is not under threat, contrary to Ó Snodaigh’s claim. Under the principle of subsidiarity, the EU has no control over our international relations and EU .foreign policy is unanimous, meaning that it needs our backing anyway.
Why can’t Mr Ó Snodaigh focus on the facts? – Yours, etc,
.
