Sir, - As a frequent traveller to Ireland, I wonder why Dublin Airport is not linked to the DART system by a shuttle link to one of the northern DART stations - for example, Killester, Raheny or Howth Junction. This would be of huge benefit to airport users. Such a shuttle link operation works very well at JFK Airport in New York.
Many travellers going to the airport have to use the airport bus from Busaras. If they are linking with the DART they are faced with a difficult walk to or from Connolly Station. Apparently CIE considers Busaras and Connolly as linked.
The airport buses have "Linking Dublin Airport with rail and bus stations" or words to that effect written on their sides. But Connolly Station is not "linked" with Busaras. Perhaps a statement like this should be put on the side of the airport buses: "Dropping you off 600 metres from a DART station, which will involve a walk including a lot of steps (at Connolly Station), crossing a main road (Amiens Street) and dragging your suitcase along a pavement that might break the wheels off it; and if it is raining you will get wet." Perhaps someone at CIE could try this walk on a wet Monday morning. It is an obstacle course and a difficult one to find at that, as there isn't a signpost on how to get to the airport bus from Connolly to Busaras or vice versa.
I wrote to Mrs Mary O'Rourke about this matter about a month ago. I am still waiting for a response. But then she does work at the Department of Public Enterprise. - Yours, etc., Brendan Quinn,
