Sir, - I read with interest Brendan McWilliams's Weather Eye of June 27th on lightning. One day last year, when yacht racing off Howth, we saw a lightning storm approaching from Portmarnock and noticed several strikes on the land as the storm came out directly towards us.
There was a strike about 500 yards in front of us; nobody on our boat or in our vicinity was affected.
Just how seriously were we at risk? What was the correct course of action? There was no consensus on board. - Yours, etc.,
Brian P. Cusack, Leinster Square, Dublin 6.
