Sir, - Two related items on the front page of your edition of June 20 clamour for attention: "Taoiseach promises action on inflation within a week"; "Shoppers will pay 10p for every plastic bag they use".
The latter measure, whatever its "green" and politically correct attributes, will add at least £1.20 - in most cases considerably more - to the weekly household shopping bill.
As a disillusioned former activist (obviously at different times) in both of the parties which make up the present egregiously arrogant, anti-democratic and out of touch Government, I am tempted to comment that its concept of "action" on inflation appears to be to fuel rather than curtail it. - Yours, etc.
