Madam, - There is no doubting the sincerity and good intentions of Alan McBride, and Brian Kennedy in their endeavours to establish a museum for the victims of the war that took place in our midst for 30 years and more (The Irish Times, August 31st).
I do not have a problem with people who want to forever remember loved ones who lost their lives in the war. By all means let there be victims' groups and anniversary parades. But having had the opportunity to think for myself since 1972, my best advice to everyone concerned is to move on and make the Troubles history. We must let go of the past. I believe that perpetuating memories is almost like making it happen all over again. Memorials, monuments and museums are to be discouraged and not encouraged.
For the record, my elder brother was murdered in 1972, most probably by members of the UVF. No one was ever questioned or arrested by the RUC.
