Madam, - Gerry Mooney (July 15th) suggests that a lasting tribute to the legacy of Séamus Brennan would be to rename the Luas bridge at Dundrum in his honour.

His use of the verb "rename" perhaps suggests that he is aware the bridge has a fine and appropriate name already. It was formally named "The William J. Dargan" bridge after the father of Irish railways and builder of the Harcourt street line by Fr Daniel Dargan SJ, William J.'s great-grandnephew, in the presence of the then minister for transport, Séamus Brennan, on July 19th, 2004.

I would respectfully suggest that any renaming would do a disservice to the memories of two fine Irishmen, William Dargan and Seamus Brennan. - Yours, etc,

SHANE GRANT, Woodpark, Dublin 16.

We met Mr Brennan many times during his term as Minister for Social and Family Affairs and presented him with our Budget proposals. He was a most courteous and sincere man whom it was an honour to meet.
