Madam, - So we would like to see our Leaving Certificate radically overhauled. I suggest, however, that proposed changes to content and assessment miss the point. While welcome, the real problem is not the Leaving examination, but the fact that its outcome is inextricably linked to the points race for university placement. We need to uncouple the Leaving from the points race and begin to create an education system that truly validates all aspects of learning gained by our young people in their secondary school career. - Yours, etc.,
