Madam, - You and your newspaper must be commended on your attempts at even-handed reporting and comment during the latest upheaval in the Middle East. But your retention of Charles Krauthammer's syndicated articles amaze me since they are so bereft of deductive reasoning and elementary common sense that they cannot help your readers to inform themselves - other than showing them the misinformation and disinformation that is available to the American public.
To refer to the vicious and bullying onslaught on Lebanon as "restrained" would seem to indicate an unawareness of reality. What terms might Charles Krauthammer have used if the scale of destruction and loss of life had been reversed in favour of Hizbullah? What sense is there in seeing things from the point of view of only one side?
To talk about the killing of Hizbullah's best fighters without mentioning the resulting recruitment to that cause is self-deluding. In all civilisations history shows that honour is seen as more important than life itself; therefore carefully chosen and deliberated words and retained honour are the key to peace - not bombs, bullets, rockets and semi-detached utterances and scribblings.
- Yours, etc,
JOHN BIELENBERG, The Crescent, Lucan, Co Dublin.
