Sir, - We are a group of Irish students in UK universities. The Irish Government has failed to give to us, as Irish nationals, the same free university provisions as they have given to our colleagues in Irish universities.
Most of us only came to the UK to study, because we were excluded from obtaining places in Irish universities through the operation of the so-called points system. We had, of course, to meet the very high entry standards which apply in British universities.
We believe that the Irish Government's decision to exclude us is discriminatory and unfair, and we are writing to invite other Irish students at UK (including Northern Ireland) universities to support us in a campaign to fight this discrimination. We hope that the families and friends of Irish students in UK universities will bring this letter to their attention - Yours, etc.,
