Sir, – Well done Bernice Harrison (Weekend Review, April 21st 22nd) and Mike Murphy (April 25th) for highlighting the flaws in Masterpiece: Ireland’s Favourite Painting. I am familiar with the paintings on the “shortlist” but how many of the viewing public would have been? The programme was an opportunity which was lost to the viewers.
I totally agree with Mike Murphy when he says the chance to inform and delight the viewers would have been best served by having 10 half-hour programmes based on each of the paintings and artists. God knows, in these recessionary times we need more uplifting programmes to raise our spirits – RTÉ take note! – Yours, etc,
Sir, – I am considering whether to include the scheduling treatment of Mike Murphy’s programme – Masterpiece: Ireland’s Favourite Painting – in a Top 10 shortlist from which will be selected the winner of “The History of Ireland in 100 Insults”. – Yours, etc,
