Sir, - Although I am a football fan and had originally been looking forward to attending the Ireland-Yugoslavia Euro 2000 qualifier, I am now totally against the match going ahead. If the Government and the EU do not take political responsibility in this matter, they are passing the responsibility for a political decision to the footballing bodies, UEFA and the FAI. Their business is football, not politics, and they cannot be expected to make a decision that goes against their interests.
If the match does go ahead, I think that the FAI should donate all proceeds, including revenue from the sale of TV rights, to the relief agencies working in the countries bordering Kosovo. Whether they do or not, I know that that is where my match ticket money will be going, and I urge other fans to adopt the same position. - Yours, etc., Harry Russell,
Malahide Road, Dublin 3.
