Madam, - A recent few days spent cruising on the river Shannon restored to some degree the belief that all is not lost in relation to our treatment of tourists.
We tied up at Mount Shannon on the shores of Lough Derg, and strolled up to the village in search of sustenance.
A warm welcome was on offer in a friendly pub in the main street. The price of a first-class pint of stout was €3.10. On enquiring about the possibility of food the lady of the house explained she did not serve any but there was, she told us "A grand pub about 10 minutes' walk away at the end of the village", and if we so desired she would drive us to it.
