DENIS C. GUERIN,
Madam, - My wife flew with Aer Lingus last week from New York to Dublin with our three-year-old daughter.
When the flight landed at Dublin airport, she needed assistance as she had to carry my daughter, her buggy and their carry-on luggage. A stewardess informed her that she could only help her leaving the aircraft and she was left to struggle to the baggage claim area despite passing many green uniforms (Aer Lingus staff).
At baggage claim, to get a trolley she needed a euro, which naturally she did not have. The Bureau de Change refused to change a dollar into a euro. Despite many red uniforms (Aer Rianta staff) again no one assisted her.
Finally, on leaving the airport she stood in line for a taxi and when all luggage was loaded into the cab the driver was surrounded by other cab drivers accusing him of jumping the queue, using foul and abusive language. All luggage had to be unloaded and put into another taxi.
With another difficult year ahead for tourism surely all efforts should be made to welcome those that do travel. - Yours, etc.,
