Sir, - Littering is as natural to the Irish mentality as walking, sleeping or drinking.
One only has to spend five minutes outside any shop or supermarket to witness the casual way people of all ages discard unwanted wrappings on the ground, usually within feet of a litter bin.
Despite the educational effort in our schools and the various advertising campaigns throughout the country, I firmly believe that the majority of Irish people are just not conscious of the problems. It's just part of what we are, and probably always will be. -Yours, etc.,
Vincent Devlin, Clonsilla, Dublin 15.
