Sir, I am saddened and angered to see yet another American President demonstrate that according to their moral and political value systems, the notions of justice or democracy are in fact meaningless. They are just words, to be cited in justification of some latest outrage. I would have thought that as one grows older, one would know better one should learn not to be upset by the slaughter of innocent civilians for cynical electoral ambition.
Unfortunately, in this age of mass communications one understands exactly what that means men, women and children in a far distant land are murdered at random to further political ambition. No words of mine can adequately describe this obscenity. I despair for "civilisation" on this planet.
Those Irish people, republicans and others, who want a lasting peace with justice in our country should not damage their cause by associating with, or seeking aid from, such cynical and amoral politicians. Yours etc., Marlborough Road, Donnybrook, Dublin 4.
