Sir, In response to Eve White's simplistic sarcasm (March 30th) "How dare folk, who should be living in thatched cottages, reside in comfortable bungalows etc", I think it needs to be said that distinctive vernacular architecture is about the shape of windows, roofs and doors, which are part of the landscape, and not about domestic appliances, which are a private thing.
