Sir, - I am thoroughly disappointed with your newspaper's Weekend section of November 24th which gave such prominence to the memoir The Gatekeeper, by Terry Eagleton. For anti-Catholic invective and blatant mockery, this pathetic diatribe would take some beating.
Considering the regard and respect the majority of Irish people have for the Carmelite order of which St ThΘrΦse, whose relics were venerated by millions here, was a member, Mr Eagleton's sick comments are a gross insult.
The Irish Times would have been well advised to distance itself from such cheap publicity-seeking ridicule. - Yours, etc.,
