Madam, - In the description of the challenges facing Prof Drumm in his new job heading the Health Service Executive (August 22nd), there was a glaring omission.
There needs to be strong and immediate action to limit the spread of hospital- acquired infections, especially MRSA. This is a problem which has already caused a lot of suffering and has contributed to some untimely deaths. If it is not honestly acknowledged and action taken on the lines already recommended by two reports commissioned by the Department of Health and Children, the consequences down the road do not bear thinking about.
We in MRSA and Families intend to ensure that MRSA is on Prof Drumm's agenda, and that it stays there until it is under control at the very least. - Yours, etc,,
TERESA GRAHAM, MRSA and Families, Tramore, Co Waterford.
