Sir, - According to press reports, Mr Paddy Mulcahy of the standing committee of the ASTI (my own union), in seconding a motion at the union's annual conference in Tralee, spoke in hostile terms of our organisation, the Immigration Control Platform.
I don't know what subject Mr Mulcahy teaches, but if it is English he may need a refresher course. Words have meaning, or used to have. Immigration Control means precisely what it says: immigration control. Mr Mulcahy would look pretty foolish in most representative Irish circles if he were to say "I am against immigration control". But intellectual and moral cowardice, a.k.a. political correctness, is immune to logic. - Yours, etc.,
Aine Ni Chonaill, PRO
