Madam, – Naoise Nunn says Thomas Jefferson “helped frame” the US Constitution (Opinion, February 1st). But Jefferson was not one of the framers of the Constitution. He was minister to France throughout the period of the Federal Convention in Philadelphia, 1786-87. His only contact with the convention was through correspondence with James Madison.
What would be rather more interesting for any talk here of a new constitution is that four of the framers were born in Ireland. Others, such as Daniel Carroll, were from Irish families. All had been greatly influenced by the north Cork man, Edmund Burke. – Yours, etc,
