Madam, - Your edition of September 26th reported that the developer Kimpton Vale Ltd was fined €1,000 for illegally demolishing the Presentation Convent in Terenure, Dublin. With the rise in development land values across the country over the past decade, there have regrettably been many other examples of speculative developers paying scant regard to the planning laws in their pursuit of profits.
Until such time as the consequences of such crimes are appropriate I believe we will continue to witness such appalling acts and our historic built environment will be the poorer for it. Our planning legislation is clearly in need of review. - Yours, etc,
