Sir, – I refer to Des Long’s letter (September 12th), which I read online. Initially, I had to double-check to be sure I wasn’t reading the “From the Archives” section of The Irish Times.
The Troubles are over, the good people of the island of Ireland have chosen peace; we have chosen a future of hope and prosperity. The contents of Mr Long’s letter belong to the annals of history and are entirely irrelevant in a modern Ireland, North and South. The prisoners of which Mr Long writes are entitled to protest, but their cause is redundant, their case unsupported. – Yours, etc,
