How do you fix a broken town?

Madam, – I would like to echo the sentiments by Sheila Pomeroy-Whelan (April 5th) about Youghal

Madam, – I would like to echo the sentiments by Sheila Pomeroy-Whelan (April 5th) about Youghal. She is correct in calling for the return of the railway connection in order to to restore the town.

I hope the new Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar, will look at all the options to increase our rail networks, including the privatisation of the network. If some young entrepreneur wants to invest in our transport infrastructure the new Government should welcome and encourage such initiative.

Ireland has gone from having the best railway system in Europe in 1910, to now having one of the worst. The State-owned system has failed. It is time to look at new ideas. Let’s hope Mr Varadkar is up to the task ahead, not just for Youghal’s renewal but Ireland’s. – Yours, etc,
