PATRICK J. McNAMARA,
Madam, - As a Limerick man with a special interest in the city, I could not understand why the late, great Richard Harris was never granted the honour of the freedom of his native city.
On November 25th 1964, during the late John Danagher's term as mayor of the city, Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, president of the Republic of Zambia, was admitted as an honorary freeman. We know now what kind of a person he turned out to be.
As the freedom of the city cannot posthumously be bestowed on the acknowledged Irish prince of the cinema, I humbly suggest that the new theatre located at the Limerick Institute of Technology be named in his honour. This would be a most fitting tribute to a man who dealy loved his native city.
Richard may be gone but not, please God, forgotten. So come on, city fathers, it's about time that we broke the curse of St Munchin. - Yours, etc.,
PATRICK J. McNAMARA, Ballykeelaun, Co Clare.
