HOMES FOR DISABLED

DERRICK HAMBLETON,

DERRICK HAMBLETON,

Madam, - As a parent of a child with a learning disability (autism), as I approach my 58th year I am becoming acutely conscious that one day soon our child will need to move into a residential home. It would be inconceivable that his young sister should be saddled with complete responsibility for his future homing after his parents are gone. She will have her own life to lead.

On reading the revelations about the level of patient care at St John of Gods in Drumcar (The Irish Times, January 28th), and being aware of the way this Government has left most organisations who care for our offspring critically short of funds, it is with growing anger that I call on the responsible Government Ministers to get their collective acts together. - Yours, etc.,

DERRICK HAMBLETON,
