Sir, - Dublin Corporation has justifiably been praised for having the unsightly disarray of advertising signs and hoardings removed from buildings and shop fronts in the city centre. The corporation's restoration plans for O'Connell Street have also been broadly welcomed.

Can the City Manager, if he doesn't already possess the powers to do so himself, now request the Minister for Public Enterprise, Mary O'Rourke, to bring pressure to bear on Iarnrod Eireann to remove the unsightly advertising hoardings from the loop line bridge over the Liffey? These cheapen and demean the city centre.

In the absence of any short- to medium-term plans to build a more suitable bridge, the removal of the advertising hoardings from the latticed sides of the loop line bridge would also serve to give a more pleasing aspect to the Custom House and the IFSC when viewed from O'Connell Bridge. - Yours, etc., Billy Wall,

Cluny Grove, Killiney, Co Dublin.
