PATRICK FLOOD,
Madam, - It was sad to read in your edition of November 8th that William E. Wilson's (1851-1908) house "Daramona" is in danger of being built on or around. May I suggest that Westmeath County Council might offer a parcel of land in exchange for the house and its lands, as the whole setting is so important.
An arrangement of this sort was made in regard to an exchange of land by the State around Rathfarnham Castle, now undergoing restoration. Daramona House could be used as a small science museum and as a fine memorial to William E. Wilson's work.
I understand Westmeath County Council did a good job saving Belvedere House and lands. We have lost so many beautiful houses in the past 40 years in the Leinster area. Let's not lose this one too. - Yours, etc.,
PATRICK FLOOD, Terenure Road West, Dublin 6W.
