Madam, - Will Priestley (June 18th) raises some excellent points about the high cost of eating out. I share his opinion that there are simple and practical solutions to these problems.
The practice of herding and corralling diners into two (or indeed more) sittings per night is highly annoying. Sometimes, I might not want "to give the table back by nine". Could the Restaurants Association of Ireland do itself and the dining public a favour by publishing a list of members who do not have this grotesque practice in their restaurants? Then we could vote with our feet. - Yours, etc.
