Sir, - We hope that the rise in spending on the health services by seven per cent, as stated in the Government Estimates, will go in some way to support carers in the home. At present, carers for people who are disabled or sick at home are entitled to the meagre, and means tested Carers Allowance.
All carers are entitled to the services of the overstretched public health nurse. Carers in the home should be able to use readily accessible respite service, telephone rental, and an adequate financial allowance, which would go in some way to show that the valuable service they provide is not going unnoticed. - Yours, etc.,
