Sir, - With reference to today's letter (October 1st), "Speed limits on roads", perhaps we should follow Scandinavian legislation introduced in the early 1990s. By this, all cars are required to have their headlights turned on when driving, winter and summer. The result was a drastic reduction in road accidents.
Simple electronic devices fitted to all makes of car, which are standard in Volvo cars, would allow for the headlights automatically to come on when the key is in the ignition. Such legislation would be particularly appropriate to the Irish climate. -Yours, etc.,
