Madam, - DES CANNON, (letters March 29th) states that traffic islands are responsible for accidents. That is on a par with the driver who, in court some years ago, claimed that a lamp-post had leapt our in front of him when he wasn't looking.
I was taught many years ago that I should never drive faster than I could see but, apparently, Mr Cannon believes that everybody should be allowed to drive as fast as possible and that the Government is responsible for all the crashes because of faulty road design.
Madam, this Government is responsible for an awful lot that is wrong with this country at the moment but even I would have to defend them on that one. Just suggest that everybody drives a bit slower if they can't see what's ahead, Mr (loose) Cannon. - Yours, etc,
RICHARD D BARTON, Kevin Street, Tinahely, Co Wicklow.
